Using CBT for confidence
CBT Coaching is an adaptation of the successful counselling mode called CBT
(cognitive behavioural therapy).
It is based on common sense and easy to
use principles, such as the importance of how a person thinks and acts
in overcoming emotional or behavioural problems.
Confidence coaching, in particular, focuses
on unhelpful thinking and behaviours which we may not even be aware are
getting in the way of our success and reducing our confidence, either
in ourselves or in performing certain activities. Client and coach work
together to replace these with more effective thinking and behaviours
which raise skills levels and confidence.
CBT Coaching aims to help you build confidence in your ability to handle current issues and turn round habits of thought or behaviour that are getting in the way of you achieving the best. Although the main thrust of coaching is towards the future, good coaches recognise that often the client has psychological blocks that prevent them from reaching their goals. An important part of the work, therefore, may be addressing these blocks to progress and success. We have to be realistic as well as aspirational!
